Re: making some progress
softer pole, same grip and run.... I would clarify... "SLIGHTLY SOFTER" Specifically, 1.0 +/- softer in flex... What is your pole selection? brand length and flex #s - ...specifically flex #s as weight ratings are subjective and too variable Do you have a good pole selection for your 4L v...

Re: making some progress
Brandon, I really like what I am seeing in your vaults... your run, plant, takeoff and trail leg swing look strong... (even stronger than before) My feedback may sound familiar - from the run, grip and pole #s in this video, the pole recoil is happening before you are inverted... what is the solutio...

Re: pushing back out during the swing?
Consider a pull which is in line or closely aligned with the chord... I assume that when you say "aligned" you would more precisely say "parallel," since the chord of the pole runs from the top hand to the pole tip. I assume that when you say "aligned" you would more p...

Re: The TAP at the top of the swing
RE: pushing back out during the swing? The Gymnast and the vaulter both bend at the knee to raise their feet while allowing the chest, torso, and hips to pass between their hands and feet into a HOLLOWED out full body stretch position (The full body coil)... Respectfully, this is an example of the m...

...There are very good reasons for not giving a great deal - or in this case ANY - information to young athletes in this aspect of technique. Instead create learning situations in which they will learn what you want them to learn - without TEACHING anything...  quality progressions prese...

Re: pushing back out during the swing?
Coach Eric, Thank you for the thoughtful reply; I do need some time to review the materially closely... I am in the process of collecting some visual files in order to formulate an open ended question which I am trying to understand myself and which is directly related to the current subject matter....

I would agree that a pull which is not in line with the chord can create a dynamic in which the pole will recoil earlier...

Re: pushing back out during the swing?
...I would surmise that the negative inversion you see in the famous first 6m vault is due to the fact that it is performed on a smaller pole than what Bubka would ultimately vault on, and the slower recoil and shorter pole chord meant that there would be excess energy in the swing. The hips swung ...

Re: pushing back out during the swing?
The tap is a method to accelerate the swing... 640 pull is a method to accelerate the swing... "Negative Inversion" is a result of fully committing to doing the aforementioned well... Swinging powerfully and quickly to "work ahead of the pole" is a common and proven concept and g...

Re: Tips for the fall
fully extend the top arm in the plant... "no bicep" with respect to the top end... forget the bungee is there and get your hip to your top hand... "right hand right pocket" then turn and push to clear... it appears that you are more concerned about clearing the bungee than finish...
