Jumping far over your weight
My coach has recently found a 14' 170 to use in practice and competition. That is 50 lbs over my weight. I have been vaulting on a 14' 160 (gripping at the very top) and I have been blowing through it. My plant is tall and I have a very fast approach. I am just wondering if there is anything differe...

Re: Any comments?
Hey, I'm going to tell you one thing that my coaches have been hammering into my head and that is to jump. You look like you are just running, planing, and then just letting the pole carry you. although, it probably didnt help that you were under (as mentioned above).

Re: Vaulters Block
Thanks for the responses and tips guys, they really helped. I went to a shorter run, got my confidence back up with some good jumps (very important if you are suffering with vaulters block too). I am now back and better than before! Post a reply if you need help with vaulters block too!

Vaulters Block
HELP! I am a 14 foot vaulter going on my 5th year vaulting. I am very comfortable with pole vault but I've gotten myself some vaulters block. When I am vaulting, my warm ups and 4 step drills are fine. No problem. But once I start doing my full approach (7 step, sometimes I do a 5 step to work on my...

Good jumping! It looks to me like your turn is... I'm not sure how to word this... ending your jump too soon. You aren't getting the full extent of your jump in because you turn too soon and end the jump there instead of riding it out more.

This was me at regionals last track season as a sophomore. I believe i was using a 14 foot 155. Not the greatest angle I know, but hopefully you can help me learn something.

Re: The Wait is the hardest part
I can totally relate, I am in the same situation as you. Among the last vaulters to come in. At least I have some sprints to run that keep me occupied but still... I find that I am more likely to get psyched out than anything while waiting.

Re: Will Sergei Bubka's WR ever be broken?
I think that the time is coming soon. Dare I even say the London Olympics? Hooker is getting there and so is Renaud Lavilline. Has anyone seen the video of his 6.16 attempt? Although it may be a sad to see the record of a legend fall, I am looking forward to seeing it happen.

Re: Michigan HS All time List
Isaac Austin made 16 feet this year at state. I believe division 3.
Hopefully I can be a part of this list within my last 2 years of high school.

Re: Last High School Meet
Nice jump, and i gotta agree with "old vaulter". You do have the ability to jump a lot higher. with that form and on that pole, i would say you would have a decent shot at 15+! good luck!

Re: breaking the 14' barrier
I gotta agree, 14 feet is definitively a huge barrier for most high school vaulters. I also agree that for most people, it seems to be all in their head. i found that it helps If you just look at it as just another bar. Nothing special, nothing new. Don't think, just do.
