Re: Help Analyzing this Vault?
I thought the 13'6 jump was pretty nice. The 14' jump was a little scary... You shouldn't grip so high that your standards are at 17"! But the 13'6 jump looked nice and you could have raised your grip a bit from where it was there, although maybe not as high as you had it for the 14' jump. Hope...

Re: Please Critique
Do you have a shorter pole for your grip height? Like a 13'6 160 for example? Your technique looks pretty nice! Make sure you're jumping up at takeoff (I think you are) and avoid being inside on your step. I think you were a little inside on this jump.

Adding on to that, keep your left elbow below your wrist as much as you can during the pole carry. You do not want it out as it is in those videos. Fixing this will help make the carry smooth and relaxed.

Re: video comparison. why is this happening?
You need to jump up more at takeoff. The inside step might be getting you better heights because you're getting sucked into the jump, while if you're outside you actually have to jump up which puts more energy into the system to get on bigger poles and get higher heights. The second jump (at 12') lo...

Re: Trying to clear 8'6 by the end of the season...
It's easier to watch the videos on youtube, since I don't have a FlipShare account, so I only watched the youtube one. There are some things you can improve on. In your pole drop, try not to let your left hand drop vary far towards the ground as you drop the pole. You want to keep your left elbow un...

Re: Missing the Mats
It was at an away meet. Is there a regulation in the rules that surfaces like asphalt must be covered within a certain radius of the mats? I can't measure the mats since the pits are 2 hours away from me, so I don't know if they were regulation. I would guess they probably were - it's a D1 school. T...

Re: Missing the Mats
Becca, that is my plan. Racking my memory, the one thing I can think of that may have been a mistake was moving to the 14'7 160 pole and starting swinging immediately. I did a takeoff jump without a swing on the 14' 160, and then started swinging after moving to the 14'7 160. Normally, I just take o...

Re: Missing the Mats
Realistically, I was probably gripping 13'6 on the 14'160 and then 13'9 or 10 on the 14'7. I didn't measure it. For the record, I am a college vaulter. I had used a 14'7 155 in practice and blown through that, so I thought the 14'160 was the next step for that meet, and retrospectively I don't think...

Re: Missing the Mats
With regards to the centered plant, I was pretty confident that I planted straight above my head. I remember thinking at the time that it was important, since the warm-up before I landed near the edge of the pits. So i centered up my plant and I remember focusing on that at takeoff and feeling it pr...

Missing the Mats
Hi everybody. At a meet yesterday during warmups I swung up and off a 14'7 pole and missed the mats and landed on my back on the asphalt. I went off the right side of the pit (from the runway perspective). All things considered, I ended up being lucky. I went to the hospital and found out that every...

Re: Need to go up pole size
13' 140 sounds pretty good if you are blowing through the 12'6 140. Start gripping in the same place and then move your grip up. Don't worry about using a pole over your weight. That's a sign that you are doing things right.
