Re: How high as a sophomore in high school?
I really want to vault at the U and I've read that their standards for athletes are in the 15'-15'6" range. Right now I can clear 11 foot bungees every now and again while not even holding at the top of my pole (13'6" at the moment). I was wondering what I should aim for by the end of thi...

Re: To Stiff Pole or Not to Stiff Pole?
How often are you vaulting with each coach? Does coach #1 know you vault with coach #2? The coach that focuses on stiff poling, I vault with 2 times a week and the coach that doesn't focus on stiff poling which is my school coach, I vault with him 1 time a week right now but when the season starts ...

Re: To Stiff Pole or Not to Stiff Pole?
to begin with, in order to stiff pole well, the vaulter needs a good tall take off - reach with the upper arm fully extended - and a good vertical jump impulse in the take off - this is great foundational reinforcement for your ground up vault mechanics whether stiff pole or otherwise - basically, ...

To Stiff Pole or Not to Stiff Pole?
I just came back from practice which was primarily stiff poling and on the way back a question popped up in my head; if the purpose of stiff poling is to get your mechanics right so that when you bend the pole everything goes right, than why don't we just go ahead and bend the pole and work on the m...

Re: not sure whats going on
Get a pole that there is no chance of you bending and just stiff pole. If you try to block out than you're going to run into some problems to say the least! When you say you're not waiting long enough you mean not finishing your takeoff right, because there's not supposed to be any passive phases of...

Re: How do you find the soft side of the pole?
I have found that the easiest way to find the soft side is hold at the very top of the pole and drop you hand down to your side and have a very loose grip. The soft side will fall to the bottom because that's where gravity will take it. Or you could always look down the the length of the pole and yo...

Re: how high on a 10'8 pole?
From what I have heard, you should be able to vault about 12-15 inches above your top hand hold but there are many vaulters out there who can vault much more than 15 inches over their top hand hold. So you should be able to vault about 11'8"- 11'11"

Re: Pushing back out with the left arm?
Being that I'm in the process of getting a consistent bend in my pole, I have tried wide grips and I definitely agree with what has been previously said; if you block out than you are going to have an extremely difficult time getting inverted. I found the easiest way to fix it was use an almost unco...

Re: Moving up to bigger poles
I've had this same problem before but it was on a 14 foot pole; I was going straight up and not penetrating deep enough. The key for me was moving down a pole size and then I was getting deep into the pit. If you are stalling on a 14' 165 than I don't think that it would be very beneficial to go up ...
