Re: Help with bottom arm/take off
Ok that's helpful. Believe it or not, your bottom arm is not as bad as you think it is. Your left hand is too close to your head, but that's not because of anything you're doing wrong post-takeoff. It has everything to do with your pole carry and plant motion. Your left hand does not get high enough...

Re: Help with bottom arm/take off
Alright, so your model for the vault is incorrect. The bottom arm should NOT push out during takeoff. The bottom arm must be allowed to bend so that your head, shoulders, and check can move through your arms and create the necessary position to initiate a swing. Take a look at this image of Bubka - ...

Re: Full Run TROUBLES:striding, posture, hands....
Hi Drew, There's two issues. First, use DJ's mid mark chart to set your mid. Your first jump in the video, you took of on, but you were over-striding to get there, so you were actually a bit out. For a 15'6" grip, you should be hitting 52' at 6 strides out, or within 12 inches of that mark. The...

Re: Help with run/take off
It has everything to do with his pole carry and pole drop. If the pole tip drops below eye level before the plant is initiated, there is too much weight in front of the vaulter to maintain posture while sprinting, and posture and run tempo degrades, so the vaulter can't take off properly, and will u...

Re: Looking for some second hand advice!
The plant doesn't get all the way up because you are carrying the pole with your hands too low. Keep your bottom hand close to your chest, pull the top hand up behind your rib cage, keep the pole tip up longer and let it fall seamlessly into the plant motion. You will find that your hands go much hi...

Re: how to fix the top of my vault
Yes, a narrow handgrip is better than a wide handgrip. Your video doesn't show your run, but I can tell you right away that that is where your biggest issues are. As you plant, I can see that your pole tip is well below where it should be for that instant in your plant motion. The pole tip should be...

Re: Any thoughts for improvement?
Well I see a pretty good vault. Your pole drop is active, and your posture is good, but it looks like you lose some balance just a bit as you plant. Your run rhythm could improve a little bit here. You might be a little bit out. Check your mid. If you don't use DJs mid mark chart already, look into ...

Re: HUGE PR. 16 9
Nice jump!! I'll give you advice anyway. You might narrow your grip by one finger. Maybe two fingers if it's comfortable. You're doing a lot of things really well. Great pole drop and run is setting you up really well. Your left arm is just getting away from you a little bit. You're going to need to...

Plant drills, plant drills, and more plant drills. Make sure she understands that the plant is initiated from eye level. Pole tip is high on all of the videos. Still some work to do on pole carry. Looks like she really understands how to swing though. Good job so far!

Re: Begginer with a lot to improve
She has a very good pole carry, and she initiates her plant right on time. Very good. However, she gets about halfway through her plant, and she hesitates with her arms, so the plant does not get all the way up. She should focus on creating as much space as possible between herself and the pole. Her...

Re: Swing Efficiency Comparison: Bubka, Tradenkov, Lavillenie
A lot of posts in this thread are written as if the prevailing assumption is that Lavillenie or his coaches made some concerted effort to develop a unique model in order to simply "crack the code" to beat 6.15. Well, that's obvioulsy ridiculous, and I think that a lot of folks are seeing d...
