Re: Please Review...State Meet is only 4 Days Away!
Although both vaulters are at very early stages of development, they can probably be helped by focusing on the following: At it's most basic element, the pole vault is a jumping sport. If they focus on only one or two things it should be to jump strongly off the ground without losing speed and reach...

Re: downswing?
My 9 year old daughter is in gymnastics. She was telling me of a high bar drill she was doing called "fish flops" (Cute name). From a hanging position you go back and forth from a "pre-stretch" extension and forward whip of the legs. Of course she's doing it with her legs togethe...

Re: downswing?
Kirk, Are there any video examples of what you would consider an aggressive and effective "downswing" as you describe it(whether it be beginner, intermediate, or advanced level vaulters)? Additionally, would it be possible to see video of what you feel is a more passive downswing for compa...

Re: Good New Article on Billy Olson
There is a quick shot of Billy Olson in the introduction of the Doug Lytle video at this website: http://www.xtremeathleticskc.com/pole_vault_training_video_doug_lytle.html He is the 7th vaulter over a bar (about a third of the way into the video) just before the sprinters come around the corner of ...

Re: Pole Vault Pole Protector
Or you can take off right and not use poles that are too soft. With all the emphasis on PVP about first learning proper technique by using a stiff pole, I would think box and pole contact would be inevitable with just about any pole in a school's inventory. Hence, some form of pole protection is go...

Re: Pole Vault Pole Protector
I'll reply with a similar type of response that I did with a recent topic regarding a "bar lifter" a few days ago... I'm not trying to detract from the entrepreneurship of anybody's ideas...heck, I try and sell PV stuff myself...but here is my "poor man's" solution to pole protec...

Re: Crossbar Lifter
Not to detract from your entrepreneurship, however there are many ways to "skin this cat". In my bag, I carry a device that I created that is cheap and convenient for putting up crossbars. Take a "U"-shaped, wall holder for a hammer that you can buy at your home improvement store...

Re: Ankle injury- bone bruise?
Even though the term "high ankle sprain" is used, it does not necessarily refer to pain up into the shin region. It simply refers to a sprain of the ligament higher than the more common one down around the lateral malleolus (outside ankle region). Pain you are having in the junction betwee...

Re: Biofreeze
Be a little bit careful with how much and how often you use some of these types of products. Here is a case about a XC runner who died from overdose when some of these creams were absorbed through the skin. No reason to think it's not a legitimate article. Worth at least a read for some since it see...

Re: Ankle injury- bone bruise?
As a physical therapist reading your injury description, it sounds like it might be a "high ankle sprain" in which you have strained the tissue/ligament that stabilizes the tibia and fibula (Syndesmotic ligament). When you describe pain that develops upon closing the angle between your foo...
