During the rockback...

Recently I've been trying to work on a phase during the rockback, more specifically the time between the swing and the inversion. I know to get fully inverted I have to first "bring my feet past my hands", but that's exactly what I'm having trouble with right now. What cues do you guys use...

thanks for all the help you guys, really cleared things up for me. i found that if i keep moving the top arm then it literally "creates" the space for my bottom arm to be "straight"...this might be different from other schools of thought you may have been coached under, but it se...

I know what you mean by the non-linear progression...sucks at times, but when you do make that HUGE jump you love it!

personally, i have no idea what model youre being coached, but I would say that you're more than "a little under" on that plant. look at the pole, its already bent and you havent even left the ground yet! on your second picture youre getting fibrefaced and i would say its because youre not...

Top 3 List

What would you say are the three most important things in a jump?

I'd say:
1) Early plant
2) Tall takeoff
3) Quick swing

Timing to the recoil of the pole

Ever since I started to vault, I've always had trouble timing my pushoff to the recoiling movement of the pole. What usually ends up happening is that at the top end of my jump, I "muscle" over the bar, barely getting height over my top hand. I'm 5'10", approximately 146lbs; currently...

Bottom Arm Issues

ive always had problems with my bottom arm, the first one being the issue of "pushing up" with the bottom arm at take off. what kind of things do you think about to do this? also, are there any drills/exercises that might help with this motion? as well, the second thing thats always been b...

It's most likely a problem with your plant; if it's late, then your hands won't be above your head, they'll be to your right, hence the direction that you travel in.

Believe it or not, i've tried that before but for some reason it just made my performance worse..I'm really not sure why, but visualization doesn't quite work for me -- I'm more of a muscle memory/kinesthetic vaulter. During my past few practices though, I've tried to keep my eyes on my bottom hand,...

Looking at the bar

This has always been an ongoing problem for me; whenever I jump, I have a tendency to look at the bar, whether it's at takeoff, or when I'm trying to get inverted. I know that by doing this, I'm hampering my jump and what it could potentially be, so I was just wondering whether any of you have had a...
