Haha, I figured the taller the better...I have a friend who's like 6'3" and he's a fantastic hurdler...incidentally, he's also a high/long jumper :P

I'm only 5'6", but I guess that's around average for girls?

PV to hurdles?

At the end of last spring season, my PV coach said that he wants to turn us (the 5 girl vaulters on my team) into hurdlers. Is anyone out there a vaulter-turned-hurdler or vice versa? Have you found that doing one helps with the other? I figure that the two correlate, what with the speed and drive-l...

My goal for this season is under 22 mins. I don't know if that's attainable (for me) or not, though...well I'll try, and that's the point of goals, isn't it? Bad start though...I ended up with shin splints after a week and a half, only in my right leg. Kinda weird. This is my first time doing xc, an...

Do you mean if you count them out loud as you go down the runway, or if you take a runback?
If you mean the latter, that might get you into trouble later on, once you get to longer runbacks.

Re: hurdles and pv

i always heard that hurdlers and pv'ers go hand in hand in track [quute="ALYpolevault"]its nice because hurdlers usually have a really nice drive but the biggest problem is hurdlers tend to spread their legs when they vault. thats my biggest problem[/quote] My pv coach told me today that ...

The late plant is probably because you're over-striding your last few steps, as opposed to just running them faster. This will mess up your steps and either get you far in or far away from the box. This could be a reason that your knee drive is weaker while you vault, because your timing/location in...

Letting go of the pole as in you take it with you throughout your vault? You just have to make sure to push it forwards (or backwards, if you're not turning yet) as your hips are going (hopefully!) over the bar.

Do you think it would be wise of me to ask my coach to give me access to the vaulting poles over the summer and try solo training? No, not at all. At this level, you should never vault without a coach. I know that if my coach has to go somewhere for a few minutes during practice, we're not even all...

Re: what can i do to prepare for pv over summer/during xc?

Where do you live? If you live on the east side of Pennsylvania, you've got Vertical Assault, fiber benders, slippery rock, and Hip Athletics (it's in New Jersey) The best way to improve your pole vault is by practicing the event with a good coach. There are a number of clubs and camps in your area...

what can i do to prepare for pv over summer/during xc?

I'm going to be home a lot during the summer, so I had planned on doing a running/swimming combo each morning (4-5m running and then 45ish minutes of swimming) to start off the day. For school I'll be doing cross country in the fall, either cross country again or swimming in the winter, and of cours...
