Re: Richartz Sets Another School Record in Pole Vault
That's just remarkable. Hey, don't beat yourself up, at least you didn't instill any bad habits. :) Actually, if I'm remembering the same girl - she didn't have a pole drop or plant in HS, but who knows, you may have inadvertently stumbled upon a great developmental teaching sequence. Maybe that caus...

Re: Richartz Sets Another School Record in Pole Vault
Wow, congrats to Stephanie! What a unique story - as I recall she was basically a 10' - 11' vaulter through high school and now she's knocking on the door of 14'! What the heck did she change up in her vault in college?

Re: Camps for beginners
In addition to Tim Johnson down at Bloom (vaultchicago.com), Tim Winder runs some great camps at North Central College in Naperville. 9 might be a little young, but you can always inquire.

Re: Failure to launch
I'm on board with this. Just to make sure I'm implementing it properly, if my vaulter is attempting a 13' bar, we want her holding around 12'10". Her 6 step mid should be around 42'3". So we set up a cone at that point and have her run back 8 strides (if she's going from 7 lefts)to get her...

Re: Failure to launch - update
Well it seems like along time ago that we were struggling with this and i just wanted to check in and let everyone know how things went this season. Thanks to the excellent advice on this board as well as some private correspondence with a very helpful elite vaulter, she was able to start vaulting c...

Re: Failure to launch
Progress is being made. Unfortunately she rolled her ankle a little while ago, so the physical aspect of training has been limited. The last meet was a success, though. Bear in mind, I think she has redefined 'success'. It was well short of a PR for her, but she took off every time, inverted and lan...

Re: Failure to launch
This has all been very helpful. Kirk, you're correct that the problem is only in meets - but I think that's more a result of only doing full runs in meets rather than competition jitters. We haven't been doing full runs in practice (as Altius noted). I'm pretty confident that incorporating weekly fu...

Re: Failure to launch
Really great advice, thanks all. Walrus, it's nice to hear from someone who has been though it. I think your concept of having a plan to put faith in is very true. The one emotion we want to avoid is hopelessness. I thought it was interesting to read that Hooker enlisted the aid a a hypnotherapist t...

Failure to launch
I've read B2B and searched but can't come up with a solution here. An experienced HS/college level vaulter just can't seem to pull the trigger on a takeoff this spring. After spending the off season doing short runs and drills she's suddenly having a lot of difficulty taking off during meets. Step i...
