Re: College Coaching Changes 2009-2010

Hey DJ, You have heard correctly. Is rainbowgirl trying to put me out of a job or something  Whats a guy gotta do around here? I plan to continue to work as the men's coach and Dave as the women's coach. We are both volunteers so its really not an issue of coaching slots. Two guys from ou...

Re: Renaud Lavillenie 6,01

I guess when I wrote this on PVP after the New Balance indoor meet we went to, I was even selling this guy short......... "I think he has one of the fastest and most confident runs I've seen in a long, long time. Of course I haven't seen Hooker. For his smaller frame and relatively flat take-of...

Re: Vaultstock, Jonesboro Arkansas

Hey Brian, what do you have to do to go to USA outdoor. Based on what I read it looked like only one standar for the fellas. It listed 5.50m as the qualifier. That seemed a little low for auto to USA's. Am I missing something? Any info would be good. We are fine tuning training and if USA's is a pos...

Re: Webb Retires as Tennessee Track and Field Head Coach

We are sorry to see coach Webb hanging it up. He has been a great supporter of the pole vaulters at Tennessee. There are many, many Webb stories over the years. I have him to thank for giving me a real chance to pursue vaulting after high school. He saw something in me that most college coaches didn...

Re: Free Take off vs. Pre-Jump

I have a vaulter (decathlete) who always takes off out. He can hit 53 or 48 on his mid-mark and still takes off not closer than 13'6. Most of his vaults are from 14' to 15'. His PR was done with a 51 foot mid and 14' 8" take-off. Many times he sinks down after take-off, but his exceptional spee...

Re: Rigid vs. Open position on take off

I think that advising an athlete to be too elastic can mislead them into being too relaxed into the take-off, although I might often use a key like "keep the chest forward" or "feel the stretch through your core"...I would think it is very important to be solid and rigid throught...

Re: Finally Over 15'

I remember vaulting on that pit in high school (well maybe an older version). This video brings back lots of memories from that hill in the background. I was soooo happy when I cleared 13 feet my sophomore year using those mean green sky poles. I felt so lucky just to get to go to "Jefferson&qu...
