Re: Mental Problem with taking off

Are you not taking off on every jump or on every jump from your full approach/highest grip? I recommend doing the majority of your jump session (spending all of it would be more beneficial) doing three step drills, trying to maximize your stiff pole grip while keeping proper technique. I presume tha...

Oregon: Available Summer Meets?

I'm a high school senior looking for any available summer meets in the state of Oregon. Would you guys mind posting any meets that you know of that a high school male vaulter could compete in? Opening height shouldn't matter; please post the registration fee if you know it. Meets that I know of: Bor...

Inclined Runway at District Meet

Good day PVP. I come here today, partially in hope of appeal, but moreso as a form of justification for myself. Last Thursday, I drove three hours to participate in the state qualifying meet for the CVC district meet for Oregon. While I was naturally stressed about making it to State, I was comforte...

Re: 2010 NFHS Rules You Should Know for Pole Vault

Vaultref, here is a question for you... let's say a high school vaulter passes 3+ heights, gets a run through, comes in at 11'0, clears it, then passes three heights to 13' (and there were other athletes jumping at all those heights). Do they get a run-through at 13' as well? I was at a clinic and ...

Re: Run and plant help!

Just do things short, and right, and then work your way up. Start with 3 strides and don't stutter step. Once you've got that then move to 4 strides. Once you've got that down move to 5 strides. If your PR is 11 then you should probably only be going from a 6 stride anyways, so after you've been goi...

Re: Fighting a losing game

Along with what Kirk said, you should try putting a bar up in practice, at or above your PR. Then in practice work on getting your technique right, not jumping for height over the bar. If you keep working on your technique while the bar is up, your improved technique will get you over the bar. Then ...

Re: Overspeed Training?

Great responses, thanks guys. :)

He is correct that it should only be used near the end of the season in preparation for your big meets.

How much time do you consider near the end? And how often should overspeed training be done when it is the appropriate time of the season for it?

Re: Trail leg

I think the only reason that his trail leg is like that is because he's not trying to keep it straight. It's not something that was caused by his technique, rather he just needs to think about keeping it straight and it's an easy fix.

Re: having trouble adjusting to new steps

As others have said, you shouldn't move up that much and back that much. If your old steps were fine and you're getting up fine on them, then why are you moving back? i can take off fine from 7 lefts i just dont penetrate and need my standards shallow.. That's because you moved up too much on poles....

Re: *****Keeping the bottom arm straight at takeoff*****

Pole Vault Pirate, a lot of the time when your plant is like you've described is because you have a late plant. Do a lot of walking plant drills and focus on getting your hands up high and having good posture. Do these repeatedly, you can never do too many plant drills. Also make sure that when you ...

Re: Overspeed Training?

It's advantage is that you get high knee action and a greater than normal resistance. So when you run on the flat runway, you psychologically feel faster than on the hills or stairs ... and you lift your knees higher ... and your legs are stronger due to the extra resistance. While you are true tha...

Overspeed Training?

I posted this in general track and field because this topic relates to overspeed training and how it may benefit sprinters in the 100-400 meter categories. Hey guys, so I'm wanting to quicken my 100 and 200 meter times. When researching what I need to do to become faster, I came across overspeed tra...
