Re: Weight lifting low reps high weights?
If you are over 15, you should be lifting weights if you want to be the best athlete you can be... in any sport! [/quote] That is one of the best quotes i've ever seen on this site. nothing disappoints me more than seeing young vaulters or just young athletes being discouraged from lifting. Weights...

Re: Constant UNDER takeoff.
I've been doing the same thing all year. if you know you're under the pole, back your steps up. Line yourself up under your pole until you're straight, once you know your takeoff spot, play with your step mark until you're consistantly in the right spot. My 7 lefts moved from 86'6 to 89 feet before ...

Re: New pole
I'm a junior vaulter and i've been jumping on either a 12' 140 or 12' 150 my entire career, my coach had me move to a 14' 140 and i must say it was much stiffer and i am no longer seeing the success i once did. I would advise moving up weight before length.

Re: Critique plz
from what i can see, you have a good knee drive and a pretty good pole speed coming in. The first thing i would try to correct would be the bottom arm collapsing.

Re: Take off
Your first problem, the "figure 4" i assume is referring to knee drive. The best place to work on this is in the sand pit or on a 3 step approach. work on keeping that trail leg down and driving the knee as you jump On the idea of the arm collapsing, it is best to think of the plant and ta...

Re: Mental Block
Unless you're some kind of freak, there's no way you can bend on a 3 step. But that's unimportant for the moment. I would just focus on planting and rowing through. Don't even bother to turn. You can just land on your butt in the pit. Once you're comfortable, move back.

approach trouble
Sometime's on my approach, i have a bad tendency to slide the pole into the box too late. My coach has had me lower the tip of the pole to below eye level, but it still happens sometimes. I'll stab the pole into the box, plant, and find myself stood staight up in the box on the pole stalling out. I ...

Re: Mental Block
i'm a junior third year vaulter. I've had that happen to me a few times too, so you're no alone. i know that when this kind of thing happens to me, I like to go back to a shorter step mark. (say you're running a 7 step, move up to a 5 or even 3) Go down on your pole and just work on getting a good s...
