What a year!!!! What do you think.. Look at Strength and depth....looks like a great year!

All I can say is thank the Lord for Rory Quiller and Mitch Greely. If not for them there would be no real reason to have an East Regional. 5.51 and 5.41 represents always.

Okay lets make a few points right now

1. Your post was completely uncalled for. Name one construction or informative thing made in your post

3. Third place was thirty one on only 1 miss. He would have gone in every region, and won 2 of them.

4. The whole purpose of a regional system is to have surprises and give people a chance who might not otherwise get in.

5. Why only single out the east region, plenty of people in the midwest didn't get the job done, and the mideast region was worse than the east as well.

The west and midwest is so much more competitive, it's not even comparable year in and year out. true there are a few decent vaulters out of the east but by no means a POWER men or women. you are trying to become an elite vaulter, you might not want to get in little fights on the internet, as i mentioned your image before you might want to conduct yourself more as a professional...

There is no doubt that the west and midwest are tough regions. But like Brian said, that is the beauty of the Regional system. Speaking for the east, there was some wind involved and some people who put up good marks during the regular season didn't fair well. So consistency paid off. The mideast, from the report I got from Hogue, had a headwind, rain and was 60 degrees.

I took personal offense to the statement that there shouldn't have been an east region at all, because I am going to Sacramento from the east. Like alot of people yesterday, I didn't jump very high, but I qualified and extended my season to get more shots at jumping higher.

I agree that I don't see the point of Mowad's post.

its not always about jumping high at every meet, but stepping up when it counts...


sometimes we can forget about the competition aspect. We can let the end result get in the way of what was really a great day for someone...

Correct me if I'm wrong.... but let's see.... Indoor NCAAs 2007...... 2nd and 7th places were from the EAST..... 1st, 5th and 6th were from the MIDEAST...... now..... who was saying that our sections of the country are worthless?

There are alot of great vaulters in the East and the Mideast..... and there are certainly alot of good jumpers in the Midwest and West as results show..... but the bottom line is, statistics are for LOSERS.... come back and run your mouth when the West or Midwest sweeps NCAAs.....that post was uncalled for and very low class. Grow up

its funny how all the east is defensive and everyone else attacks them, lets all stop being so defensive and start reading things as they are. i dont think this message topic started out as a defensive post....lets keep to the topic. Midwest vs. West: 12 guys over 5.21+ at the West Regional with 5.80 winning it. 6 over 5.21+ at the Midwest regional with 5.31 winning it.....you be the judge.

You can't compair 2 competitions that are 700+ miles apart......how bout we just wait untill after nationals.

On the radio they would say "long time listener, first time caller." So I guess here I should say long time reader first time poster. So, hello to everyone.

On the topic of west vs midwest I agree with the last post. You have to wait for the head to head competion so that the conditions are the same (But WOW for Tommy's start to the season).

On the "we might as well not have the East Region meet" post... One of the problems with email and IRC is that you can't read someone's tone of voice or body language. I talked with the coach that posted that and he was being sarchastic and trying to say the exact opposite of how everyone (including me) interpreted his post. My apologies to him for misinterpreting his initial post and my apologies to vtechvaulter who seeing my intial reaction and being the loyal kid he is quickly came in with guns blazing.

For those interested in the relative strength of regions you might be interested to know that there is a proposal that is likely to pass that will move a bunch of schools west. Arkansas for example with their fine women's vault squad and future razorback Spencer McCorkle will move from the mideast to the midwest region. Us (Virginia Tech), Penn State, Pitt and a number of other schools will move from the east to the mideast. There are also schools moving from the midwest to the west. I'll try to get a post up with more details.

Rob Low of BYU at 5.30m was the cutoff. Rob finished
13th in the West Region but must have been admitted to
the at-large pool when someone above him didn't declare...
sprained ankle or something.
