Stopping rumors

Hey, Chip Heuser here. I heard about some rumors concerning my head injury and trying to come back to the sport. Here are the truths concerning myself, OU, and the polevault.

1) I know I'm not well liked in this community, have no idea why, but just wanted to let everyone know that MY FAMILY DID NOT SUE THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA post head injury. I don’t know what the coaches are telling people but it’s not true. My family is a very loving family and would never stoop to such a low level. And shame on whomever started that rumor. If you want to know, just ask me. I’m a very friendly person!

2) The University of Oklahoma helped me in my struggle to return to vaulting by putting me in contact with Tim McMichael. Many of you know him as a coach and an elite vaulter and NCAA champion. He is a VOLUNTEER COACH for the university and has aided in my attempt to return to the sport.

3) This weekend at the big XII championships will be my last competition in the sport of pole vault for a long while, perhaps permanently. Good luck to all those collegiate, high school, elite, and beginning vaulters. Hope to see high heights from all of you.

Thanks,
Chip Heuser

I wish you good luck, but I add that although there are more important things in life than vaulting, it can get in one's blood. When I finished my final collegiate season in 1968 I felt that my vaulting was over. After that I didn't even follow the sport. But in 2002 or so I read an article about a masters vaulter and that re-started my interest. So after 35 years off, I took it up again. Don't be surprised that somewhere along life's journey, pole vaulting may touch you again. :D

Good luck to you Chip! I really enjoyed meeting you at the Grand Haven Beach Vault this past year and wish you would make the trip up there again! That meet is a lot of fun, and it would have been nice to see you again!

Goodluck Chip! I haven't heard any of these rumors either but that was a very classy way to clear things up. I'm sad to hear that you will be retiring from the vault, but I admire the way you have handled your injury situation. You had a remarkable career and I enjoyed competing with you at the NCAA meets... even if you did whip my a**... haha. Wish you all the best buddy!

Hogue, you are the man... Im always in your corner, do well this year and the following years to come. Maybe win an NCAA title and think of me on the podium, I came close a couple times... that was my dream!!!!

To everyone else, thank you for your kind words and your encouragement.

Be safe, and whatever you do, land on something other than your head.

Hey Chip,

I never heard anything negative, either.

Are you off to med school? Sure we can't talk you out of it?

Say hi to your mom and dad.
