division 1 A vs division 1 AA

hey i was just wondering like what's the difference between a division 1 A and a division 1 AA - i tried searching the site but couldn't find anything - Thanks ;)

It really only makes a difference in football. IAA is going to be a bit smaller schools and definitely smaller conferences, but as far as qualifying to nationals goes, you're in with all of the other DI schools.

i dont believe that any classifications in ncaa(d1-a, d1-aa, d2, d3) have anything to do with size, although smaller schools are typically in the lower divisions. it is all up to the school as far as what division they are in. the different divisions have some different rules.

There are many factors and school size isn't one of them. It's based on number of sports offered, # of football scholarships, average home attendance, etc. The University of Miami (FL) has only like 6,000 students. Rice may be the smallest DI-A with 1,500 students. Then you have really large DIAA schools like Texas State with 26,000 students which is larger in population than all but around 20 DI schools.
