1. Tommy Skipper:2 jumps over 18' already this year. (Any one know what day LoJo jumped 5.71 as a 19 year old). He deserves to be #1 right now. Saw his 5.71 jump over on neo vault, still has plenty room for improvement but is still deffinently getting better.
2.Brad Walker: Jumped twice this year both over 18. Had a strong showing in Reno, as early as that meat was. Got injured in his next meet, then even after coming off an injury was able to jump 5.51. Didnt realize that in the same meet that skipper won, walker only took 1 attempt at 5.71.....?
3.Daniel Trosclair: Who should be #3 hmmm...wehave 2 first timers over the 18 foot barrier now... what to do...At the beginning of the season who would have predicted him to have jumped 5.51 this early in the season. This after a super 5.40 jump a couple weeks before!
4.Ray Scotton Best outdoor true freshman lastyear.Add another Ray Scotton Best outdoor true freshman lastyear.Add onother jump of 17-6 1/2 at the tyson invite. Jumped 5.38 at Rod McCravy Memorial. Jumps 5.35 at the McDonald's Invitational. Best sophmore jumper in the nation right now.
5. Giovanni Lanaro, the 2003 Big West Conference Champion, and 2-time NCAA All-American, jumped 16 feet, 10 inches at reno. Then out of nowhere busts out a 5.51 at the Holiday Inn Team Invitational in Boise. What the heck are they putting in the water during the meets over there.
6. Pat Luke from UCLA has finally started to get things rolling...May have only started out with a jump of 16-04.75 at the husky invite. Then jumps an amazing 17-7 (5.36) to win the PAC 10 invite.
7.Chip Heuser add another 17-00.75 clearance...along with 5.20 at the Florida Intercollegiate, 5.30 at the SEC invitational, and jumps 5.35 at the Gator Invite. The best non National HS boys pole Vault record holding freshman there is right now. I think he might have finally leveled out for a little while.
8.John Russell should have been on this list last week. 17' .75". at kent state...17' 4 3/4" at reno...(17-0 3/4), at kent again...wins penn state national with 17-00.75 (5.20m)... but uhoh, a no height at the Meyo. How could you possibly come back from that, how about a record setting performance of 17'7 at the all Ohio Championships!
9.Brandon Glenn Has been a very consitant jumper all indoor season. This last weekend was no exception... 5.21m (17-1.00) at the holiday inn. He now has 4 jumps over 17 feet this year in four attempts. Somone ask him how many times hes jumped 17 before that... let me tell you its less than 1. Talking about coming into your own during college. Jumped 5.20m (17-0.75) at the NAU invite. Duplicated that height 5.20m getting 2nd at the ASU-UA-NAU tri. Then jumped a amazing 5.35m (17-06.50) to earn second at the Mountain T at NAU.
10.Paul Litchfield is just barely holding on this list. I missed a 17'4 jump of his a couple weeks ago and decided to give him a little break, he might not have had the best weekend this last week but the whole thought that he DID jump 5.50 at reno last year just get get out of my head. We'll see if he can get back into top form by NCAA's.
