My new baby brain isn't working too well so you guys will have to help me out here...

So Kendricks... he's the first collegiate 19-footer since Tommy Skipper, right? How many PRs was that for him, 3?

I think he's our first US guy, other than Brad Walker, over 19' outdoors in years, right? I think Brad is the only other one still competing?

Barber... World A standard, Canadian JR record... is that the SR record too? If only he had jumped better at USA JRs last summer... ;)

From various people on the T&FN Message Board http://www.trackandfieldnews.com/discus ... =1&t=50132

Second-placer Shawn Barber of Canada is also one to watch. He set a big PB of 5.71m, breaking not only the Canadian junior record but also the national senior record. It's also a North American age-18 best.

This is a HUGE result that probably deserve a thread of its own. Sam Kendricks is 20 years old. His previous PB is 5.50 (6.60 indoor). The result is equal second best (behind Walker’s 5.90) by all Americans since 2010. Only 10 vaulters jumped higher than him since the beginning of this decade, the youngest of them was born in 1989 (three years before Kendricks). Kendricks and Andrew Irwin give the US hope to be competitive again in the PV.

As amazing as Kendrick's pole vault win was, it was only the tip of the iceberg of a great competition: nine athletes vaulted 18-1 or higher tonight in Austin. According to TFRRS, only six vaulters cleared 18-1 in the entire 2012 season.

Please tell me someone got video of the whole competition? Looks like a preview of NCAA minus Irwin?

Thanks for posting this vid, Scott.

Congratulations to all the vaulters over 5.50. That's fantastic.

Special congrats to Sam Kendricks and Shawn Barber. Sam for his phenomenal PR, and Shawn for his too, AND for breaking the Canadian Jr. and Sr. records!

Wishing all the best for Shawn. I will call his technique "Texas Style", since it's not the Petrov Model. As a freshman, he has many years to improve. He's only just begun ...

I love Sam's trail leg swing! Still not Petrov, but it's hard to be too critical of someone that increased their PR by a foot in one day and is suddenly the leading US vaulter in 2013! He's got a great future too,

I'm thinking that Ash's April Fool's Joke wasn't so far-out after all! :D
