If you get released by your college during the season cuz you want to transfer, does that mean you can't compete for that school for the rest of the season. Thank you!

Haha I am not an expert on all that. Everything happened for me very fast last year.

I do know you need a separate release for each school you want to talk to, it's not a blanket release for every school.

hey Becca, do you use a year of eligibility if you transfer in conference, or does that only pertain to athletes on scholarship...If you are released and not on scholarship you can transfer right? I just ask cause you were at florida and georgia in the SEC, right??

It depends on what the conference rule is. The SEC has a rule that you have to sit out a year if you transfer within the conference.

I was not even on the team at Florida and I still had to sit out when I went to Georgia (I obviously did not know that before I transferred).

When you are in college, your school owns you. I was not on the team at Florida and I still had to get a release before I could talk to the coach at Georgia!

A friend of mine went to Florida and did not play sports. He decided he wanted to transfer to a school that had men's soccer, because he was a very talented soccer player. He had to get a release to talk to schools, when Florida did not even offer his sport!

no you do not have to sit out the rest of the season. but if you ask to transfer it could cause the coach to stop letting you travel. just depends on your coach.
