Board member Scott Duckworth nearly pulled out a medal at the Texas 5A state meet today with a PR 15'9" but finished 4th on misses.

Despite an extremely devoted following chanting "DUCK, DUCK, DUCK" and what appeared to be biased officiating by probably The Greatest Vault Official in the World, he could not clear 16'.

There's always next year Duck!

1 Ty Barrington, Southlake Carroll 17'00"
2 Devon Rodriguez, Fossil Ridge 16'00"
3 Kelly Stephens, Houston Memorial 15'09"
4 Scott Duckworth, Klein Oak 15'09"

Your last 2 clearances would have been close attempts at 16'3". You lost it after clearing 15'9" though. You need to learn that you don't need to do things differently at the higher bars. The same jump that got you over 15'6" & 15'9" would have gotten 16' very easily and would have been close to 16'3. Consistency in your technique is what will bring those PRs. It was a good job though.

16' is definitely going down this summer.

I got tired after i jumped 15'9". I had one good shot at 16'. There are still a few big meets.

I was not "biased", just enthusiastic, I've been officiating youth meets along time and Duck is just one of the guys I've been watching through the years. Scott was not a standout as a young vaulter but has never stopped working. He has become the perfect coaches cliche, "if you work hard and stick with it good things happen". I think bigger things are in store for the Duck, congratulations Scott, I know you didn't medal at state, but that was a gold medal performance in my mind. Good luck, I'll see you in the summer.
