I would guess most 'elites' (5.80m) are between 115 - 125 with mids between 54-56 and take offs 13-14'6 if they ran from 8 lefts / rights. I am sure there are a few outside of these marks but I would bet most fall somewhere in that range. Check out DJ's chart you can add up the numbers to find about what run will jump what bar.
Add the mid length plus average stride length for additional 10 strides and you will have a fairly close estimate.

Other than plagued with stupid injuries...I can sum it up in one word: bleh.
My jumps look technically amazing, it's just the heights aren't there to back it up. I think it's just pole selection and I need to get on some stiffer sticks. I may have to slap a recent video or two on the forum and get a range of opinions/advice. We'll see, I've gone back to basics and started all over with the simplest drills. How about you, ready for outdoorz?

good morning,
let's get back on topic...
i would like to see if i can give you a run, to practice on the track first, that will make you faster, more accurate, better posture, better rhythm... and... put you where you need to be at takeoff.
you said your start was 107'..... and you want a takeoff outside of 11'6"...
i would need a 6 step "MID" and a grip height?
a 11'6" takeoff indicates a 14-4 ish grip... a 48' "MID" with the potential to jump 15-6..
you may be jumping higher than that already...and cleaning up your run could put you over the top...
could you give me your actual... grip, 6 step.. left to left "MID"..
thanks
dj
ps... i wonder if we want to put this thread on technique???

hey
i'm doing some math to try and come up with a run...for polevaultero8
tim mack's 9 left run on his 5.90 jump in '04..... approx 135-8.. mid 54-8 TO 13-8.. if you subtract 14' for 2 steps = 121-8... but i don't think he could hit 54-8 and get in from 8 lefts..
honestly.. your "MID" is out for a 14-8 grip... and indicates to me, without seeing your approach or jumps, that you are stretching to be under and slowing down... which creates posture and penatration problems(with the under takeoff) which in turn keeps you from gripping 15-6 and jumping higher..
i feel you should work on a MID at or near your grip... get your feet down underneath you... create more speed and an "out" takeoff.... then progress to the next "MID" and do the same...
do these runs on the track.. until you are very efficient with a "MID" one foot longer than you can use on the runway.......
for example mike tully could run 7' strides over the last 6 steps..FAST.. and plant into a towel.. his best "MID"s in meets were 55-7 -- 56-2... depending on the wind...........
more on that later...

8lefts marks
123 for an 8 left run is pretty far. I am positive he has a running start and some sort of skip to make 123 a 8 left run. Or he is really tall with long legs. It really depends on the start of your run. Also it depends on how strong your legs are too. But there is a general mark for everyone. Within a few feet. Geof Fairbanks 8 left run was 101feet with a takeoff of 13'3'' to 13'6''. He was gripping 15'10'' on 490pole 190lb. My 8 left run has been 15'2-15'4 grip from 100ft. Take off at 12'ft-12ft-4. Thats what it was a while back. My legs have been getting stronger but I haven't done my 8 left run but I can see it being 101 or so. Something like that. If I were to hold higher then my run would be a little bit further back. The 8 left run may also flucuate a little due to the pole length someone is using. I have never gripped 16'5'' so I can't tell you my experience. But I had seen Tim mack run 8 lefts holding 16'0'' and his take off was 13'3''-13'9''. And he was running from 109. It depends on how strong your legs.

I'm 5'10" so that's 70 inches. 8 lefts is 16 strides and 1 stride is approximately equal to your height, so 70 x 16 = 1120 inches. 1120/12 = 93.33 feet (93' 4"). My take-off is around we'll average about 13' 9", so 93' 4" + 13' 9" = 107' 1" should be my take-off from 8 lefts. Pretty close actually (102' 9") since my last and first strides are probably shorter over all. And I don't skip at all out the back, just a simple step.
Just another way to think about it.

wow! if you do me! that exactly what my run is. Im 6'2, 74 inches
74 x 16 = 1184 inches. 1184/12 = 98.67 repeated. My take off is right around 12' to 12'3. 98'6 + 12 = 110'6". It is my take off from 8 lefts, but how did you come up with this?

Randall,
In HS my 8 left was 109ish....9 left was 121 (No skip.) I was gripping 15'3 then. Incendentally, I have not run from 9 since. I will this year though....
Last year I was running from 118 for 8 lefts (with a skip)
Grip: 15'6-15'9
Mid: 53'6
Take-off: 13'6-13'9.
Pole: 16'5 14.0
Mid was a little deep. I think it attributed to my achilles injury last year.
