Bengal Kasie Scott breaks school pole vault record

The Idaho State men's and women's pole vaulters competed in the 30th annual Simplot Games, the nation's premier indoor track and field event for high school athletes. The Bengals competed during the exhibition event, a mixed event between men and women, against members of the Pocatello Track Club, Air Force and Club Northwest.
Junior Kasie Scott had an excellent performance as she vaulted a height of 13-00.00 to take seventh place in the mixed competition, which surpassed the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the pole vault by half an inch. Scott matched the 24th and 25th rank positions of the women's NCAA descending order list. Jessica Miller-Hafter, senior, from Akron holds, 24th place and Cyrena Giordano, a freshman, of California holds 25th.
Scott set her personal best for the season and her career with the 13-00.00 vault, six inches higher than her season best which she has reached twice this year, the first at the Snake River Open and the second at the Mountain State Games. Scott's performance set the school's record for Idaho State in the indoor pole vault for All Time-Top Ten Performances and Performers.
The previous record was held by Katie Williams with 12-10.00, set in 2006. Originally Scott held the 4th best All-Time Top Ten Performances record and tied for the fourth best All-Time Top Ten Performers record.
After her vault, Scott received huge hugs from her friends and teammates on the floor. U.S. Olympian Gold medalist Stacey Dragila, who also competed in the exhibition event, congratulated Scott on her excellent performance. Dragila finished with a height of 12-06.00 to take 8th place in the event. After she reached her finishing height she could not find the stride needed to successfully plant and lift herself into the air and ran through the rest of her attempts.
Senior Levi Keller led the Bengal by reaching a height of 16-00.75, surpassing the Big Sky Qualifying Standard, to take fourth place in the mixed competition. Former Bengal and Idaho State assistant coach Paul Litchfield took first place at the exhibition event when he vaulted a height of 17-06.50 which would have been an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark if he were still competing at the collegiate level. The entire men's and women's team will be back in action on Feb. 23 at the Wildcat Tune Up in Ogden, UT.
