To all - What other events would they like to try at a high level?

Kerron Clement ā€“
ā€œIā€™d like to do the pole vault (laughs). I think it would be interesting.ā€

I think he'd have trouble with his steps ;)

I remember when Al Joyner came out to UC Irvine with his wife, FloJo, and his sis, Jackie Joyner Kersee, because he wanted to try and vault so he could do the decathlon. It was me and Dave Johnston (DJ) helping him and he really did pretty well. But Florence had us put the bar on 17' and said to Al, "now you tell me that you would come down and try and jump that". That was the end of the experiment. As the 1984 gold medalist in the TJ, he had some serious blow on the runway. Bubba

hey

Al could run in the 13.0's in the hurdles.. could throw and jump..

he went to Arkansas State and had Earl and Kochel to teach him to vault.. but he never tried it there that i know of..

he came to the Visa Deca camp in La Jolle and did all the events but vault with Dan O'Brian and asked if we would work with his vault at Irvine....

that got shut down with the tradegy of Flojo's death..

he came to vault with me a few times at Magnolia High School and jumped 12/13 feet easy.. but his heart wasn't in it..

he has been coaching some pretty good triple jumpers recently in socal...

awesome human being...
