New Project Feat. Scott Roth & Others needs funding

I have recently launched a funding campaign for The Five Rings Project, a weekly documentary-style web series that will follow Scott Roth, Levi Keller, Ryan Vu and Ryan Brown as they chase their dreams of competing at the Olympics in 2016. The Project will include footage from training, competition and everyday life and will shed a little light on the day to day life of post-collegiate athletes.

Visually, the Project will look to break the mold of the common side view, slow motion, "video analysis" style pole vault videos that are so prevalent on YouTube right now. Don't get me wrong, that type of video is great for pole vaulters, but it does nothing capture the excitement of the sport and bring it to the masses.

To get this Project off the ground, we need to raise a minimum of $5000 for equipment, travel and administrative costs. Keep in mind that the more money we can raise, the more awesome we can make the series. For instance, if we can raise $15000 or more we can go to most competitions and follow the athletes more closely, making for a better experience for all.

I understand that this seems like a lot of money, but each and every bit makes a difference. We have even set up some rewards for your contributing, like tshirts and film credits. Together we can make this project a reality.

If you are not familiar with the athletes, here are some short bios:

Scott Roth: PR 5.72m 3x NCAA Div I National Champion while at U of Wash. Multiple time Pac-10 champ and All-American. Placed 3rd at 2012 Olympic Trials. Competed at 2012 IAAF world indoor champs.
Levi Keller: PR 5.51m Nat'l Club champ 2011. Competed in the Multi events while at Idaho State before transitioning to vault specific. Competed at 2012 Olympic Trials.
Ryan Vu: PR 5.41m 2010 Pac-10 Champ. Ranked #2 vaulter in Canada for outdoors 2011, indoors and outdoors 2012.
Ryan Brown: PR 5.40m 4x NCAA Div II National Champion while at W. Wash. Univ.

This is not only a fine group of vaulters but a great group of PEOPLE (which I think is most important). I am very excited to tell their story and bring the vault to the masses, but as I said before we need your help. Please go to our website http://www.fiveringsproject.org to contribute and get more information. Remember, the more people we can get to contribute the more awesome The Five Rings Project can become.

Thank you all for the support.

Cool Project. You should start a Kickstarter for this!

I've noticed this whole kickstarter concept flying around with a lot of small independent film groups and artists. The amount of traffic the main site generates alone has the potential to create much more exposure than anything we can propagate within the pole vault community. It may really be a way forward for vaulters to raise funds and at the same time bring more awareness to the sport!

I went through the process of setting up a Kickstarter before launch and found it to be a bit of a pain. We are doing a similar thing on our website, which is a bit of a trade off between a little exposure and control. Not to mention the fees (10% of the income goes to Kickstarter and Amazon, where just a fraction of that goes to paypal in our campaign).
