It's gonna be a killer field. I can't wait to see markov take off at 16'. I was debating wheather or not to stick around Eugene for a week after school gets out, but with this start list.........there's no way i can miss it. If we get a classic summer day which always has a 15 mph tail wind out at Hayward, we could easily see another 6 meter vault.

Take off at 16ft? If this is true I can only think of three ways.
1. He's only about 4ft tall

and lightning fast on 5.10m poles, or
2. He's on an 18ft pole

, or
3. He has a VERY free takeoff. That is one takeoff that would be worth sticking around a few more days to see.
Wish I could be there. It sounds like it's going to be a great competition. Is it televised?

Definately choice number 3. He's probably on 5.20 pole too. Check out these vids to see the most free take off you've ever seen.

He trains at Sky Athletics right now.

That take off is amazing, the pole doesn't even bend until his foot has completely left the ground, most people with really good take offs do well to get their heel off the ground before the pole bends, Markov is a foot up in the air before he bends the pole, talk about anticipating the takeoff.

if you REALLY look at the video.. that pole is starting to tweak before the foot has cleared ground.. it's right on perfect

some people believe including myself, that the faster you move the pole to vertical the better vaulter you can become. If the pole is moving up without bending off the ground its headed toward verical.
