A grand time

Olympic pole vault silver medalist Toby Stevenson of Odessa was the grand marshal for Saturday's Silverado 350 and, today, he's headed for the White House to meet President Bush on Monday.

"This is all fun," said Stevenson, a 27-year-old who went to Stanford. "I've been kind of floating around, trying to drum up support for the next four years. Any time I can come along and do things like this, it's awesome."

Stevenson is part of Texas Motor Speedway's weekend-long tribute to Texas Olympians. The grand marshals for today's IRL Chevy 500 are gold medalists Dana Vollmer (swimming) of Granbury High School and Jeremy Wariner (track) of Lamar High and Baylor and silver medalist Darvis Patton (track) of TCU.
