Elite paydays

If you've ever wondered what the elite track athletes earn, below is a survey done of IAAF Golden League, Super Grand Prix, Grand Prix, and Grand Prix II meets. The below amounts don't include any money from sponsors, national federations, IAAF year end bonuses, IAAF World Champs, etc. This is from the website trackprofile.com.

So are the prizes just for PV or are they for all of the events. Any clue about the decathlon prizes? Personally they should get like 10 times the amount. I mean they have ten events to do

That was the average prize per place for all events. I would guess the multi-events pay more per event since Tom Pappas was on one of the lists at around $100K and I would think that he would have competed in 3-5 decs that season while most single eventers compete 15-30 times per season.

Oh that is so cool. Maybe one day I can make that much for competing in a Decathlon. I Guess 100K is totaly worth it. Hey thanks for the Info

tom also won worlds last year... and he was endorsed out the butt and had sooooo much press about the upcoming athens games... those things add up.. there's not much out there for decathletes, especially if you don't win consistantly

Peyton Manning makes 24,000+ each minute of a game he plays. Thats not including endorsements.
Just goes to show how much track and field gets the sh*t end of the stick in America.
Just throwin that out there.

you know "slickVT" AKA ADAM who is not very "slick" .... it is not nice to put down our sport like that. yes pole vaulters don't get apid as much as what ever sport you were talking about but at least pole vauters get apid .. maybe you need to be a little more apprecitive .. MAYBE

All I gotta say is $100K vaulting is worth $500K working.

I have to work, to pay for my vaulting obsession. I have only made a couple of hundred bucks vaulting, but that was just a bonus on top of what really matters......I can vault, and I can improve, and that is all that I ask for. Money is nice, but having the ability to stay competitive or even just participate in this event is a gift that I will cherish forever.

Y not be pissed? Do polevaulters not work as hard as any other professional athlete? Lets see baseball, basketball, and football pros who ride the bench get atleast 250,000$ plus! Im not putting down our sport Im saying there is something wrong! Why be satisfied, it is a crock of BS. I think we need people to promote our sport better, get peoples attention. And escuse me runners but on every meet you see 20 minutes of the 100 meters that lasts 9 secs. Then you get to see the 10,000 meter run for 10 min. Then if you are lucky you get to see matbe 2 min total of other events crammed into the end? How do you get endorsement when your not ever seen on tv! Heck its hard enough to find out when a track meet is on! Does anyone ever have trouble finding an nfl GAME ON? More money in our sport sparks more interest among youth = more kids getting into track, more money made at camps, more elite USA athletes, and more dominance over the world in track.
