My Camera is a Kodak EasyShare DX7590

I don't have those big fancy lenses that the professionals have, and I have never taken a photography class... but I think I do alright. Good enough to get media credentials every now and then.

How hard is it to get media credentials?

Depends on the meet.

Gotcha -so do you usually just contact the meet official(s)?
I've been considering doing it for some of the upcoming meets in my area.

Yeah sometimes they have a media contact person listed, otherwise I just contact the meet director.

Most smaller meets it's not an issue. I think the only meets I went to any effort to get credentialed for were NCAAs and NAIAs.

I would definitely go to the effort of at least talking to an official, because sometimes the school can have really particular rules. I was at LSU last weekend and had an official tell me and another one of our vaulters that we were not allowed to film/take pictures of our male vaulter (for our coach who couldn't make it to the meet because of school, so we were not reviewing it with him during the meet, I know that that is a no-no). I had even gone to the trouble of asking the vault official because earlier I had been told that I couldn't take pictures of one of our long jumpers because I didn't have media credentials or LSU credentials; and he had given me the ok, as long as I didn't get in the way. Luckily, Beth and I were able to record all except the last vault before the "head official" was consulted and said that we couldn't take any film. Sorry for the long story, it just frustrates me that some officials can be on such a power trip, that they find a need to stop something that is beneficial to the athletes and coaches alike, you can see some pretty amazing things from both video and pictures about what you are doing right and wrong. Just my 2 cents as a budding sports photographer.
