Bad News; and Good

After I wrote to t-and-f@ darkwing to ask when the other Russian women would compete, Michalis Nikitaridis wrote from Greece that Feofanova had scratched from the July 10 meet at Rethymno with an injury.
Shortly after, I heard from Karen Locke, agent for several top vaulters, that Feofanova's injury is serious enough to probably cause her to miss the outdoor season. Very bad news, because she kept Dragila, later Isinbayeva, having to do their best.
I asked Karen whether Derek Miles, one of her group, is showing any improvement with his shoulder problems and she gave permission to pass along this good news: "Derek jumped yesterday from a short approach and he's coming around. He will compete in three weeks."
