What happened to Jacob Davis? He posted some of the most incredible marks for his age that anyone has ever seen, vaulting 17-6 as a 15-year-old and 19-4 as a 20-year-old. The last thing he apparently did was vault 19' in 1999. I never heard much about him after that. Why did he stop vaulting after college?

I do not know Jacob, but was talking with his high school coach Joe Hester last night. He had mentioned that Jacob had married and stopped vaulting after his sophomore year at Texas. I have not heard exactly why he stopped vaulting, but have always wondered myself.

This lends itself to several good marriage jokes, but since my wife reads some of these posts, I'll let someone else take this one.

My coach had a good vaulter in the NCAA the same time as davis was there and he said that Davis flat out did not like to vault. Apparently his dad made him start vaulting, and he never really did like it. Also rumor was that his training was to vault 4-5 times a week so on top of not liking it, burning out probably was an issue. My coach also said that at one of the big meets, he walked in, Slammed his pole bag onto the ground, and left the track, didn't even jump. Whatever it was its a shame, because he was really impressive
