What can I do about my vaulting if Im not even planting the pole? Does every get this disease, "Non-Plantinitus". I really am getting frustrated with this. I hope like everything else problematic that has happned to me, this will pass with time...but if anyone has gone through this before, please let me know what I can do to Plant the pole.

Not any good.

short vault, short vault, and short vault

I got a case of this my senior year and my coach forced me to short vault for 2 weeks, and it cured me.

smaller poles and shorter runs are always a good cure for mental barriers

Sometimes I run through like 2 or 3 times and just say screw it no matter what I am planting. It works for me...........

Thats all I can do, but once I get back to 10 steps I can't plant everytime. Could it be that I took a lot fo time off during the holidays? I can't really figure it out. I have never really ran in to this problem before, but I hope it just takes a couple of weeks.

maybe you need to work back up to 10? um stiff poles is excellent, im talking jumping high bars stiff poling. and also look at your run try a mid-mark and make sure your run mechanics are there..

i had this problem A LOT in high school. and then some some at the begining of college. i happens to most vaulters. for me at first i just needed to be confident in my run. eventually you just have to commit to taking it up. actually for me sometimes i wasnt ready to plant because my pole tip was too high coming into the plant so maybe look out for that. if that is the problem just make sure that your tip is low enough. but that is just one possible problem.

If you can, have someone check your run and pole carry (angles, lean, cadence, hand positions, ect...) on your long run and compare it to your short run, which you seem to have no problem with. You might carry to high or too low or lean and are not in the position to plant.

I personally use two carrys, 5 steps or less is shoryt pole, so I pick up the pole and run almost parallel. Anything longer is much faster acceleration, so I start verticle. If I switch either one, it messes me up real bad.

Ok, this method always worked for me, and it has worked EVERY TIME in the young vaulters that I coach... No exageration...
If you want to get off the ground and plant, you have to jump. Right?
In order to jump, you have to have a foot on the ground.
So... Think about one thing and one thing only...
GET YOUR TAKEOFF FOOT ON THE GROUND, AND JUMP OFF IT. If your hands are anywhere near above your head, you WILL takeoff.
Hope it helps...

I agree with Kyle and Ash: go back to a 3-left approach w/softer poles and then gradually work your way back one left at a time. Here's another tip to add more specificity to that suggestion: Every time that you add a left, you should move your starting mark back a distance that is approx. double your height. This really works and it eliminates the silly practice of running back your steps (i.e., once you know how far your 3-left approach is, you basically double your height to add each additional left).

Good luck. You can overcome it!

Chris is right RELAX, in addition....don't practice NOT planting, Jomrus and I did that for a week before his 1st state meet, he got really good at not jumping! Get out the slide box and get that run down. Take a deep breath and bring it and jump it. You may need to get away from the vault for awhile....go work on your speed & strength....keep the vault fresh. It will come back.
