Hey all I have a quick inquiry. I went all last season without a single no height, pr'd at 15'5 and qualified for NAIA nationals. The beginning of this season i no heighted the first two meets then hit provisional for NAIA indoors. Ever since I have been no heighting like Im getting paid too. The height isn't the issue either. Im skying my opening heights but my standards are never right. What kind of stuff can I do in practice to get this fixed!. Any help would be much appreciated.
I am on a 16' 180 20.0 flex with standards at 80...thanks again!

If you are having trouble with your standards on small bars, maybe give yourself a little more space between the bar and you by sacrificing a little hieght vertically between the bar and you, for a little more hieght horizontally. Put a bungee on your opening hieght and work on staying inverted until you are safely over the bar, dont dont pike as hard as you do when you go for your PR. Just a thought. If you are coming down on the bar, 9/10 times you need to hit your take off harder.

Train like you compete, take a vault with a bar sit for 15 min...
Get a note book record everything you do, training, jumps, if you take a jump in practice on your competition pole with a bar with standards. wright it down. this way come compition you will know what works and what does not.
if your taking good jumps in warm ups but not in comps. then think about how you warm up before you start to compete, make sure your body is working durning warms ups, when you cool down to sit, then when you get called into the mix.
also realize, some days its just not there. Going a whole season with out a NH is a great thing, but NHing ts also apart of the sport. sometimes you can get your whole body on the bar do a pull up on it and it stays on. Some days a butterfly flapps its wings in china and its comming down.

It has been my experience that some times even the best of officials for some reason do not zero the standards correctly. When that happens there is nothing the athlete can do to prepare for the inevitable NH that is coming. To make sure this is not the case. ALWAYS before your first practice jump have the officials move the standards to zero and hold your pole in the box vertically. If the bar is not within 3 or 4 inches then the standards are not set properly. Fix this and you can focus on jumping...

Drop your grip. There is no award for NHing with lots of hip height.

i totally agree with that, ask your coach to turn a few practices into 'meets', jumps on the pole you would in a meet and go at a bar at your opening height
