Tips for easing up to the next pole?

I have a 12'4" Altius bend rating of 7.1 that I'm crushing pretty bad, the next step(as in available poles at my school) is a 13'6" 145 skypole, I'm not sure if it has a bend rating. I tried it today and all I seemed to do was bend it half way then it launched me back at the runway. I tried everything I could thiiink of to fix it but nothing worked. So I need help with that.

I bet you raised your grip too much when you went to the longer pole. Put the poles side by side and start out going straight across. You might not bend the 13'6 pole as much but you'll land in the pit.
