Both of my vaulters will be vaulting in the state meet Thursday (05/08/2008). Both are 14' vaulters with great work ethics. I don't want to over work them, but I want them to be prepared. What type of workout should they do Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday?

I would say do a normal Monday and Tuesday practice, just with no/light running and no weights. Wednesday, have them do a full warm up, then just talk about your strategy.

If you're at the meet site and can jump on Wed, then just take about 4-5 jumps just to dial in steps and get familiar with the facility.

That's our normal pre-state routine....

Pretty much agree with Ash... if they are healthy with no shin splints issues, I'd do some vaulting Monday and Tuesday and that's about it, maybe a light running workout. Wednesday is light, just warm up and do a few pole runs. I don't like my kids to vault the day before a meet, but high schoolers usually seem to survive it OK. I'm not a big fan of vaulting at a facility the day before the meet... that's time their legs should be recovering, and I worry that if they have a bad practice or something that it would psych them out for the next day.

So really it just depends on the kids, but really the whole week should be pretty easy.

I do it for just that reason, to avoid any meet day freak outs, esp for the first timers. I limit them to 3,4, or 5 jumps, just to find our step and get familiar with the runway, box, etc...

Vaulters did great. One pr'd and set a new class a state record with a jump of 14'2". The other 3rd with 13'6'' another pr. Can't wait till next year.
