i started pole vaulting since i was very young and by my junior year in hs i was jumping 14' 6". senior year i got hurt and tore tendons and ligaments in my foot before the season started and couldn't run for over a year. now im a sophomore at VT and really want to get back into it. im out of shape but i plan on starting to train seriously again for the first time in 2 and a half years. do you think ill be able to come back at all? and if so should i not pick up a pole again until im in good shape?

I believe there are two former VT vaulters who are still training in Blacksburg who post here on PVP. Try sending a message to VTechVaulter or SlickVT.

It is NOT like riding a bike... there are 1,000 times more variables/things to remember in the vault than riding a bike.
That is not to say that you can't get back into it: read the 'masters' forum, and you can check out some really cool success stories, where guys took off like 30 years and came back to jump quite high for their age!

i think it depends compleatly who you are. I know a guy who dumped 17 about 5 years ago, and doesnt practice any more (he may coach at a high schoo). But durring the summer he helps at a camp and can grab a pole and still hit 15+.

Bubka says he could still jump 5 meters quite easily!
EDIT: I just watched that interview again, and he actually says he could do 5 FIFTY with no problems at all! GEEZ!
