The number of warm up jumps can be all over the place depending on the individual.
Typically I've seen most elites take several swing ups followed by 3-5 full run.
I've seen a NCAA champion female take 2-3 jumps from 3 left, 4 left, 5 left, etc. back to her full run.

As a coach, I trained my vaulters to get by on 1-2 warm up jumps. As many have seen, in some meets there will be 15-30 or more vaulters in line on the runway. A vaulter should be physically warmed up and mentally prepared to start on only a few jumps.
As you know, under IAAF rules there's no further warm up after competition begins. Even more reason to be get by on just a few warm ups jumps.

i guess i'm the only one taking as many jump as possible before they close the pit.
I get more confidence in myself if i do a lot of warm up jumps.

Warm up till the vault looks how you want it. If you are conditioned well you should have between 12-15 good jumps in you each session. 8 warm up jumps leaves you at least 4 good jumps, and 3 back ups if you start knocking down cross bars. In a meet, you should be able to come in so that the third or fourth height is a PR. Keep in mind if there are 40 people on the runway you may only get 3 or 4 jumps though, so make them count and you if they are shaky, just come in lower.
