I went to the Harry Jerome meet in Burnaby, BC yesterday.

The weather was nothing like last year. This year a storm came through during warmups, so they had to start the event a little late. It wasn't raining while they were vaulting, but it was pretty chilly and everything was wet.

Event 2: Women- Pole Vault- PORTER HETU
1. Shuing Gao, China, 4.41m
2. Kelsie Hendry, Canada, 4.10m
3. Yingying Zhao, China, 4.00m
Kate Soma, USA, 4.00m
4. Carly Dockendorf, Canada, NH
5. Becky Holiday, USA, NH
6. Adrienne Vangool, Canada, NH
7. Erica Bartolina, USA, DNS
8. Lindsay Taylor, USA, DNS

LOL I don't know how they can give places to people who did not show up or clear bars ;)

Brad Walker came up and was helping Kate, Carly, and Becky. I don't think Becky got off the ground all day. Kate and Carly looked pretty flat, which I'd say is pretty normal for 3 days after having great performances at NCAAs.

The Chinese girls looked pretty awesome. They have a lot of potential. Mr. Cliffford heard that Yingying Zhao is only 14! She smoked over 4.00, and passed to 4.20 which she took good shots at. 14 or not, she's a stud.

Shuing Gao has some serious tools. She's tall and lean and is already gripping really high. She took off pretty out on a few jumps and still turned up the jump and made it into the pit no problem.

I have some pictures and video I will post soon.

A crowd of around 4,200 cheered loudly when China's Shuing Gao set a meet record in winning the pole vault in 4.41 metres. That broke the old mark of 4.40 set by American Becky Holiday in 2004.

"Before the competition I didn't know exactly how high I could jump," Shuing said through an interpreter.

"I did a lot of preparation and I tried my best."

Saskatoon's Kelsie Hendry finished second with a vault of 4.10-metres.

China dominated the women's pole vault portion of the Pacific World Cup, with Gao Shuying improving upon the 4.40-metre meet record set by American Becky Holliday in 2004 with a 4.41 effort. Saskatoon's Kelsie Hendry took second at 4.10 while 2004 world junior championship bronze medallist Zhao Yingying, also of China, was third at 4.00.

"I'm extremely happy, this is only the third day we have been in Vancouver so we are still suffering from the time difference," said China's Gao via an interpreter. "I am very happy with what I achieved today."
