I'm still jumping Kirk, well if you call it that. Still throwing shot. Was #11 in the nation last year 50-54 indoor. Most all of my kids are jumping on poles 20-30 # over their weight and none of them are very fast. I know how and more importantly when to get kids to grip up.

For all of you that need evidence.. I don't need any more help on this topic. Since my first post, I am now on a 15'7" 180. When I originally posted this, my PR was 16 feet. Gripping mid 14's isn't unreasonable for that height. On my 17'2" jump, I was on a 15'1" 175 16.2 gripping 14'10".

Nice vids, and nice pushoff! 36" is very good for HS.
But as good as your takeoff looked, you are still under a bit. And you have a couple more inches before you cap that 15'1" pole.
With your current speed, and with improved technique, you've got plenty of 5.50+ capacity left in you!

You're going to jump some big bars, Zach. Keep working on swinging on that top hand. As soon as your body weight gets supported on the pole, you catch it all with the bottom arm and your hips stop swinging. That takes pressure off of the pole and keeps it from moving to vertical. When you master that, you'll move much bigger poles with a higher grip and obviously pop some huge marks! Good luck and have fun in the process!

Well Lefty you really do exist and aren't a prank. 17 + ,you are in a class of the top boys in the country and world. If you got ther all by yourself I could understand why you would reach out to the peanut gallery for help, but I suspect you had some good coaching along the way. At the minimum you were Competing at AVC and may have had the opportunity to discuss your grip situation with Morry. it's my opinion that he is one of the best in the country. Definately he's had much greater results than anyone currently on this board. I hope you consider his advice to you and think about joining his club.
