In it, he uses the term "connecting" to the pole to describe the actions of the vaulter. The terminology is abstract, but it's a good way to describe the desired awareness while pushing the pole, being elastic on the pole, and going hollow.

Yes, the Re-extension of the plant- after the vaulter has gone elastic- allowing the top hand to rotate back through the shoulder past the swing leg toe and the bottom hand to rotate through the shoulder over the top of the head!

This is to allow the complete release of energy (Full range of motion) that the full body coil (From the hands to the feet) can offer as it uncoils and also allows the swing to occur naturally on its first axis of rotation (The top hand). This also insures the continued forward rotation of the pole toward vertical.

For far to long now, from novice and expert coaches alike, a rowing or pulling effort has falsely been identified and encouraged, which disrupts the entire process of the correct Tapping action. It is the same action that a gymnast should employ by pushing away from the high bar in the downswing to allow the maximum amount of swing energy out of the coil, as the torso passes between the arms, in the foot tap.
