How/Why did you start pole vaulting?

I personally joined track to long jump and run the 100m. At this time, I had never heard, read, or seen the pole vault, and I didn't even know it was an actual thing that existed! But I remember quite vividly about 3-4 days into the season, I saw who back then, was our best vaulter, jump on some kind of bending pole, getting upside down, and flinging his body using the pole, and I was SO amazed. The next day I hesitantly approached the vaulting coach and asked to try it out, never looked back since that day!! :)

I saw it on the olympics and signed up to pole vault the next year in middle school.

Basically, like any other teenage boy, being told I couldn't do it just made me want it more. My grade school would not allow Vaulting. When I got to high school it was the first thing I wanted to do. Of course it took a year to convince my coach it wouldn't interfere with the high jump.

It was my friends birthday and she just randomly dared me to go down there and pole vault. I told her she was going to have to bring me flowers in the hospital and/or speak at my funeral.

My JV basketball coach told me I wouldn't play until I agreed to try pole vaulting in the spring. :D

I started cause it looked like fun, and after I tried it I fell in love with it. My brother also vaulted and encouraged me to start but the reason why I kept vaulting is because of how fun it was.
