Rules

Today I was at a large high school meet. It was USATF sanctioned. The weather was terrible. I need a rule clarification. We were pole vaulting, then it started to rain. We waited it out for about 30-40 minutes then continued vaulting. We proceded until it started raining heavily again. I was the only one who had cleared the height (in light rain). Everyone else had missed two times. Once it started raining, the father of one of the vaulters left (four plus me) pressured the officials to call off the rest of the event. It had been raining again for only two minutes. Is there any specific time limit that must be considered before calling an event off. If we had waited 20 more minutes, the reain would have cleared. There was blue skies with light clouds only a few minutes away. I was very disapointed. :crying:

no specific rule - you can vault in the rain, snow, cold - Meet Management call on calling off for safety reasons

In Omaha this summer it was so bad they stopped it three times. Then when there were just a few left, they held umbrellas over their heads on the runway before they would take off. It was ridiculous! Girls were slipping into the box, getting hurt and everything and they wouldn't stop it again. The vault took 7 hours that day! :P
