Am I wrong here?

So here's the deal.. The local pole vault gurus in my neighbourhood keep saying: "Never get on a pole rated for a lower weight than yours - it will disrupt your learning of a proper technique" :dazed:

Let's test this:

If I weigh 150 lbs and a 13'-150lbs pole is to big for me - do I go for a 12'6-150lbs?

If this fits me perfectly - what will the natural progression be, once I am ready for a bigger pole? Do I go for increased weight rating og longer pole? Or dare I say it: Do I try moving down the 12'6-150lbs pole before going for a 13'-150lbs?

Perhaps the questions are nonsense - just trying to figure it out..

A 12'6 150 is smaller than a 13' 150, so if a 13' 150 is too big and you are lucky enough to have a 12'6 150 available you should try it.

If you have the poles you should try to go up in weight before you go up in length, then when you do up the length drop the weight back down.

technically if youre not holding at the end of the pole the point at which your holding is not rated for the same weight..the further down you hold on a pole the more weight it can handle.
