The retraction I promised DECAMOUSE & GILL out of respect
It took 34 years for someone to call it to my attention! SMILE

In 1967 they did have a training pole as seen in the site above posted by Decamouse of GILL sports, that I was not aware of and at the age of 17 we did not have internet or the things we have today to do searches.
So I will retract that I was not the inventor of the first training pole in the USA. I have most recently found the BAntex from England and Lerc of France training poles have been used since 1965 in EUROPE.
[color=brown][b]Here is my story and
Here is how it happened
In 1968, at age 17, one summer I was driving from a meet in Missouri. I came across a factory that had these red orange rods on the side of it building. Upon inspection, I discovered they were fiberglass poles used in the hot stick industry to make tools for power and light companies. The rods were 24’6â€Â

I still think it is a great story. Kinda like the Fosbury Flop... he probably was not the first person to do it, but that doesn't mean he copied anyone else either.
We have one of those honeycomb poles at my high school! It broke at the top though

I think somebody wayy too big for it must have jumped on it awhile back.

Bruce, ignore this its not directed at you!!!
Dont believe everything you read or hear!!! Even MOST respected newpapers and media s t r e a c h the truth to make a good story, its human nature. Its even worse when it comes from and individual who cannot and does not have a way of backing it up, nor do the listeners have a way of disproving it no matter how outrageous it is. I was raised (here we go) to HATE only 2 types of people - LIARS AND THEIVES - now you can be a liar without being a theif but it does not work the other way.
Ok - I am off my soap box!! Sorry for the rant.

Trainers - they were good and served a purpose - even had one of
I believe it was French - X-Flex - weighed a ton (slight stretch) - do pole runs with that for awhile - almost time to go vault in the backyard - really

Bruce - is it 32 or 34 - or does that depend on the web site - just for clarification - it is not the first time - I made the same statement in July on this very same polevaultpower site - look it up - also for someone who for 30 plus years invented/developed this - now you did develop a very good training pole - it was amazing how fast you came back with the comment about Europe having a training pole two years before Gill had it in there catalog - perplexing - before we talk about upbringing - what is that about glass houses - gee wiz - guy drives home for the weekend and everyone gets there undies in a bunch - I vaulted in the backyard have now had a beer - relax - enjoy this site - make good vaults not war - ok thats lame

ps: I enjoyed the little history - showed real initiative - and that is a no bs comment
