Pole Vault helmets

Our state requires all high school pole vaulters to wear helmets; consequently, we are looking around to purchase a few. Does anyone have a suggestion regarding what to buy and where to buy it? We've checked Simpson Performance. Their prices ($150 per helmet) might just prompt our athletic director to dump the whole event. I also heard about a Triple 8 ASTM 1492 helmet for around $35-$40.

Any suggestions would be appreciated....and, yes, I know this is a very debatable requirement. We're just trying to meet our state's mandate so our kids can jump.

I just did a search for "helmets" and found some good info. Should have done that first. :o If anyone has further suggestions, though, please let me know.

I recommend these to the kids I coach:

They are cheap and do the trick. You can get them in most colors.

If you want something cheap, I vote for an old school hockey helmet like Toby wears...

If you want something with a lot of padding, go to your local sports store in the bike and skateboard section, they should have them as well!

I wore a helmet for a season and I found my just at a local skate/bike shop. I think it was like $40, but it was several years ago so I'm not sure. Skateboarding helmets work pretty well because they have a lot of all-around coverage, they come in cool colors, and they are light. I hardly noticed mine.
