If you fly America West they will let you take your poles with you.

You can trust Southwest....$35 each way--counts as one checked bag. We won't do American again....we got there 3 hours in advance...paid $85 each way and they decided there was not room on the flight to get them on....even though we were there so early and paid extra! Then we had to sit in St. Louis for 6 hours waiting on them!

Southwest flies out of Raleigh. If you fly out of there checking it as excess bag will be an option for you. BaxGlobal we have had much success with. Emery, the pole manufacturers seem to have good success with, but we have not. They guarantee the time, only to tell you it's not guaranteed due to length, and have only gotten our poles to us in time for competitions once out of about six times cross country. Yellow Freight is great also. No matter who you use, always allow extra time. If you need it in 3 to 5 days, give them a week. If you can get it on your flight you need to make sure it will fit on the planes for each leg of your flight.
