check this out, what is that he is using as a bungey? It looks to me like there is a bar on a string that will go down if he hits it.

Seems like a good idea to build confidence over bars.

It's a bungee/pulley system. I haven't been in Dempsey since fall, it looks like Pat added foam to it since he first set it up. I think I'll be there Saturday, so I will tell you if there is anything more to it.

Pat rigged up this pulley system last year to quickly adjust the bungee height for different vaulters. It doesn't move up or down any more than a normal bungee when hit ... it's just faster to adjust between jumps and between jumpers.

Yeah by an order of magnitude.

I checked it out today, Pat stuck a very lightweight PVC pipe over the bungee, so the vaulters feel it more when they hit it. It's a pretty flexible PVC pipe, I think ~1" diameter and thin-walled.

$549? You can make it for $50.

Na I found all the parts online for $17...

Two single wheel swivels, and two double wheel. Then about 100 foot of quarter inch rope.

When you guys build them try to give credit to Dale for his inspiration and creativity. And remember to always were Safety Glasses when working with power tools!!

Dale's system is really great though. Not everyone is mechanically inclined. I couldn't build one if my life depended on it. Dale's system is fairly easy to set up and transport to different facilities.

Pat based his off Dale's system, then made adaptations to make it work even better for his facility (Pat's isn't portable).

I think you may be underestimating the functionality of this set up. For instance do you see there are extension up each of the standards and a piece that goes between each of the extensions. The ropes go from the standards base up to the top of the extension, across the cross piece, down the other side to that standard base. It then reverses direction to end up back at the starting position. Of course there are pulleys in several places also. It may be able to be duplicated for less than $549, but it certainly is not going to be done for $17.

Ok I can make cheaper (not as reliable) version for $17 with just the wheels and rope and bungey cords to tie it all together. The full version with the extensions on top of the standards will probably put me a little over $50.

But it is a great invention I probably would have never thought of. Took me a few minutes to figure out how the rope worked so you could pull just one side and it would raise both. Then figured out it was just one long rope.
