Removing old tape/sticky spray/ handball wax, etc

Anyone here know what stuff (adhesive remover) is safe to use on poles? We have some poles with some nasty residue from tape mixed with sticky spray and handball wax that is virtually impossible to remove. I know acetone will take it off but I'm afraid the acetone will weaken the pole (strip off some of the resin?) Is there something else y'all would recommend? Or will acetone be safe to use?

Acetone is fine, will not damage the pole.

Acetone is virtually the ONLY solvent that is safe for poles. Do not try any other solvents. They will weaken poles.

I've used isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol and it works great. You can keep the individual disinfecting wipes in your bag and use them as needed with little mess. Should I be concerned with damaging the resin?

I use spray Goo Gone with a scotch-brite scrubbing pad. Works beautifully. I spray the Goo Gone on the pole and lightly spread it all over the area I'm cleaning. Let it sit for 5 minutes and then use the scrubbing pad and everything comes off easy. Wipe the pole down with paper towels and let it dry for 10 minutes before re-applying tape.
