Which pole brand gives the most bang for the buck?

I just took a job with a high school that has new mondo track and new pits. What we lack is poles.

So here is my question, what pole do you recommend that I buy with a limited budget? I have my favorite brand but I'm interested in what you would do.

Also, do you know of who or where I can find a volume discount?

Please help me out!!!!!!

Thanks,
Tom

Altius poles are the least expensive and they do offer a volume discount to schools.

I don't have their number saved, and it looks like their website is down... but Tim Reilly is a dealer and he can get you taken care of. http://www.nwpolevault.com/

I initially started buying Altius poles for my club because of the price. I now sell them.

Last year I had a boy jump 17'00" on an Altius. Another went 16'3", and another 15'4". All on Altius poles. Also had a freshmen girl go 12'2" on one.

The average price on the 14's and up is about $100 cheaper per pole than the other brands. I've got just about every brand of pole in my barn and we use them all and like them all, but for the price, you can't beat those Altius poles.

Check out our website for prices if you're interested:

If you check out the boys and girls NIKE Indoor National Leaders on Dyestat.com, both vaulters jump on Altius. Special thanks to Paul Richards for building a great pole!

I've purchased Altius poles for my high school vaulters the last two years and really like them - especially for the price! The only thing I'd like to see changed on these are the rubber pole tips. We seem to have problems with them moving off center. Wish they had a harder tip that stays in place better.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions for different tips that fit the Altius poles?

Yeah we had the same problem - also burned through a lot of tips doing one arm drills. Bought a bunch of tips from cal Track Reconditioning (Caltrack.com) that work just fine with the Altii.

Note about the altius poles - bought 10 of them last year and was able to suply several local teams in our area with poles. Massachusetts state champion and New England #3 used 'em. Good sticks and GREAT price :-)

UCS or Gill tips work great. If you measure the diameter of the bottom of your poles, they'll be able to tell you what size tip you need.

Those pole tips have kind of grown on me. At first, we didn't think to give them a twist after each jump. We've had the same tips now for almost 5 yrs. and still going strong. They're also easy to take off of the poles to pack in our tubes. You can fit a few more poles without the tips.

I've looked up the Altius pole tip sizes - I need a few A-2 Altius tip sizes. Do you know what size this would be with the Cal Track tips?

Thanks for the responses. Looks like I just simply need to do like rainbowgirl says - measure the diameter of the pole and simply call a supplier with this size.

This would be a good post - differences in pole tips, plastic vs. rubber vs. others - which tips are preferred and why... I think I'll start a post on this if there isn't one already.

Rag Out!

The Cal Track tip I've seen looked like it was in the same sizes as the Altius and ESSX tips. The Gill and UCS tips are by mandrel size, so you need a more precise fit.
