I guess I'm starting to improve my form because my bottom arm's wrist hurts from collapsing it. Is there any easy, cost-effective way of protecting your wrist during the vault, or should I go out and buy an armband?

Just buy a cheap wristband and see if that is enough protection for you. They're not expensive.

Adams youth football forearm pads, or some other combination of those words. Pretty good costs like $10 for a pair of them but u only need one. Works pretty well.

If you look for them *maybe at a gymnastics facility or somewhere that carries that kind of equipment* the wrist bands that guys wear are much longer since they need protection when they are on pbars.
If you want to splurge a bit, you can buy the neoprene wrist bands that they sell for gymnasts.
Personally, I just put some tape on it if it starts to bleed. I mean, no sense in getting blood on the pole tape.

Last couple days I've been using tape.
However, fair warning that you may lose some hair on your wrist from it...

Try prewrap first if you're worried about that.....or, if it is an open wound, you could always put a band-aid on that part. If you don't have prewrap, try backtaping it before you tape it the normal way.
