A changing thread interesting?

Unread postby Bruce Caldwell » Mon Jul 28, 2003 12:12 pm

This thread went from ESSX Factory visit to pole carry methods to cabs that take poles, then to Decamouse’s MR 2
hey Jeff I have one too 1991 yes the poles do not fit in the glove box or on the outside of the car. Then to drivers license

WOW it is interesting how a thread can change and still be about the great sport of POLE Vaulting A real civil and out going group we have here!

Does that mean vaulters loose focus easily? :( Or as a group a real outgoing bunch willing to share all kinds of stuff!!! On thing is sure - compare this board to the T&FN one - this board is much more civil

ESSX, I noticed in your pictures that you don't have a cage around your testing machine. When I visited the UCS/Spirit plant in NV many yrs ago they had one. What happens if a pole explodes on you?

we just moved to Fort Worth

We have the cage being built and It is not installed yet.

We clear the area during test as it is a problem when poles explode

I think a pair of safety glasses would do the trick.

**anyone remember the batting cage scene from "happy gilmore"?? ;)

your correct

Unread postby Bruce Caldwell » Mon Jul 28, 2003 6:37 pm

oh we wear those but what we have working is a plate of lexan clear sheeting.

All the poles that have broken in the tests have flown left and right. We have never had any coming side ways.
The machine is hard on poles when there is a small air bubble.
In the beginning we had a few ESSX Carbon poles break!!!
But you are correct and we are working on it.

safety

Unread postby Decamouse » Tue Jul 29, 2003 7:08 am

I figured you either had a safe zone or were working on a guard for the new place - ours is guarded - since you occasionly try to break poles during testing - there is a good deal of energy being released - the last carbon prototype (different carbon type) let loose and ended in five pieces - wakes everyone up ;) visitors like to see it in use - re-cert of really old poles is also interesting

the high school i graduated from had some old poles taken into gill to get tested. i was very surprised at which ones broke and which ones didnt. one that i was sure would bust ended up being a 14' 115. another that was an old cut pacer III ended up being a 14-180 beast.
if you live close enough to the factory and have a pole that you are not sure about then you should take it in. the small fee that gill charged was a lot easier than a school purchasing new poles.
i wish i could have gone along, but i was busy. dang it. i still havent been to gill even though i used to live only an hour away and my dad bought 3 poles from there while i was in 8th-12th grade.

Visit

Unread postby Decamouse » Tue Jul 29, 2003 4:10 pm

It is not a bad idea to visit a manufucturer - if you are in the area - call them - if you are in Texas - even though it is a long drive to Illinois - - give Bruce's guys a call - did you really think I would say drive to :dazed: Much of the equipment and method is very similar - just ask them NASCAR fans about Ford's and Chevy or Dodge ;)

Question about material

Unread postby Jenny205 » Wed Jul 30, 2003 7:16 pm

I have read all the treads y'all have wrote about the design of you poles. The different types of glass , putting carbon in them. I was wondering if any poles have been made with kevlar to make them stronger and lighter?
