By Greg JonesHigh school sports editor
Most of the time, people tend to forget about second place. But that’s difficult to do in the case of Bishop Dwenger senior Kevin Schipper.
Schipper finished second last season to Northrop junior Corey Shank in the pole vault at the state finals. Schipper got lost in the shuffle of Shank’s state-record 17-foot performance. But Schipper went a school-record 16-9 that tied the previous state record.

Both Schipper and Shank are dangerous vaulters. They can come up big and take the win at any meet they go to. Corey always brings it, and it always seems like its a timing issue keeping him from going 17'+, and when i saw Schipper vault at Indiapolis, i could tell he was a very good vaulter. Makes for a very interesting year!
The greater the challenge, the more glorious the triumph
